I hope this update finds you all well and thriving. As of Sunday, March 29, 2020, the country will be in lockdown until April 21, 2020. This is a change from the earlier plan by the Prime Minister. When school was closed for schooling home quarantine, the directive was the 19 March-April 17 of April. Please note that at this time the school intends to reopen according to the Prime Ministers new directive on April 21, 2020.
I know that students and teachers are transitioning into this new arena of schooling. Home Studies can be very liberating for the organized, independent student. However, home studies can also be very difficult for the student who needs high structure and consistent patterns that the classroom provides. It is important that you as parents set the standard for study at home. This requires your time for helping students to organize themselves and the work that is expected daily.
Regardless of whether the IGCSE and IB assessments are rescheduled, learning needs to continue. The hiatus from the formal classroom to home is location only. Students will be assessed on all learning when we return to the regular scheduled in school format. Please attend to your child’s responsibilities by following up every evening with your child’s workload. Every morning, students should have created a list of things to accomplish for that day. You can check completed daily work in the evenings by using the morning “to do” list.
Further, students are reporting that they are unable to do their work as they do not have data. Parents are advised to purchase data to support the changes in programming during this COVID19 emergency. Also, students should clear their devices by deleting social based recordings, excessive photos, and unnecessary APPs. Students will be held accountable for daily work through grading and feedback, and assessments will be administered by teachers upon returning to regular schooling. Student grades will reflect their efforts and follow through with assignments and follow up assessments.
Please be aware, students have scheduled contact time with their teachers daily. These scheduled times follow their school timetable. So, it is essential that students have consistent data so online learning can take place. Excuses will not be accepted for simple lack of follow through on schooling responsibilities.
Teachers will make themselves available if you have questions. Your child has the teachers emails and you can connect with all of them to support your child(ren) efforts during Quarantine Home Study.
Yours in Education,
