RE: COVID19 International Observance & Continuance of ONLINE schooling and Blended Learning Sessions for the remainder of 2020 academic year
Dear Machabeng Community;
On behalf of the College community and staff, we miss our students and we are looking forward to getting back to learning! Much has happened in the past few months and we hope this communication finds you and your families safe and well. Here’s what is happening….Machabeng College is currently under the directive of the Principal Secretary (PS), Ministry of Education. We will be under the directive of the Ministry as we undergo restructuring and reorganization for accreditation. Currently, we are awaiting the nomination and voting in of a new Board of Governors. If you want to be part of the growth and development of the College – please join us as we need you!
We appreciate the efforts and dedication of the Ministry as we move forward with a 21st Century approach to instructional learning. The College is currently waiting for approval of the Tuition and Fee structure by the Ministry of Education which will then be sent to parents/guardians. As soon as we know, you will know. However, you can enrol now. We are observing entry fees, initial monthly payments, and accepting enrolments for continuing students as well as new students. In fact the tuition and fees are a small detail in the scheme of our new beginnings. If you require specifications for a third party payments of tuition and fees, please contact the accounting office….or stop by and bring your questions. I am certain we can come to a resolution together.
Here is the exciting update… The school has secured the services of Computer Business Solutions (CBS) to build an amazing network infrastructure for internet connectivity which will greatly improve the accessibility on the College campus. Look out! As such, the teachers will teacher online from the College daily keeping the same timetable patterns as we would observe under a typical face to face instructional platform. What is important to note is the internet infrastructure will now make us equal among all of the International schools.
Mark the date and note the information….
- MC Staff are currently participating in training and preparing for the re-opening of the online schooling.
- The new school year for regular Online classes starts September 21, 2020 for everyone.
Please note that we have been participating in continuing education and exam prep with S5 and DP2 students since July.
- Monthly Saturday Online Classes- intervention and small group instruction will be part of the new year as we make up the delay in starting school.
Kindly ensure your child has internet connection as well as a dependable PC or laptop to use for the Blended Learning Educational Platform. One of the greatest challenges that the College community is facing is the devices that allow actual accessibility. The devices used are either out dated, too weak, or are unable to synchronize with online resources.
Considering that both students and teachers will require work on Microsoft word processing, PowerPoint presentation, spreadsheets as well as dependable connectivity with the College databases for those enrolled in ICT, the following minimum requirements for computers are preferred:
Microsoft 365
IBM Compatible laptops
- Processor: Intel Core i5 or i7 or AMD equivalent.
- Display: 13” or larger.
- Memory: 4GB or higher
- Hard Drive: 512GB SSD/HDD or higher
IBM Compatible laptops are dependable and economical. For those who require computers with more memory and zing especially for the artistes, we recommend the following
MacBook Pro or Air
- Processor: Intel Core i5 or i7
- Display: 13” or larger.
- Memory: 8GB or higher
- Hard Drive: 512GB SSD or higher.
We look forward to Zooming with you on 21st September 2020!
Yours in Education,
Jannalee Schwimmer James Kamau Constance Ateka
